Abstract

Aim: The research was conducted to examine the relationship between breast cancer worry level and orthorexic tendency.

Materials and Methods: The research, which is descriptive and relationship seeking, was conducted with 347 women. The research was conducted in a Family Health Center affiliated to the center of a province in the east of the country. Research data was collected using the Participant Identification Form, the ORTO-11 scale and the Breast Cancer Worry Scale. In the evaluation of the research data, descriptive statistics, Cronbach Alpha test, t test for independent groups and logistic regression analysis were used.

Results: In the study, it was found that 70.6% of the women had low breast cancer worry level and 26.8% of them showed orthorexic tendency. It was determined that the risk of orthorexic tendency was 0.889 times higher in women with high breast cancer worry (OR=0.889, p=0.001).

Conclusions: In the study, it was found that there was a significant relationship between the breast cancer worry level of women and their tendency to orthorexia nervosa. It is recommended that women who are served by health professionals should determine their breast cancer anxiety levels and make evaluations in terms of eating disorders while conducting/directing breast cancer early diagnosis screenings.
